The Lone Defender is a 1930 American Mascot movie serial starring Rin Tin Tin. This was Mascot's first all sound serial. This was Rin Tin Tin's first serial at Mascot, after being dropped by Warner Bros. when they decided animal pictures would not work with "Talkies". He also starred in the later serial The Lightning Warrior, which would be his last appearance. Mascot made a third serial, The Adventures of Rex and Rinty, but that Rin Tin Tin was not the same dog.

The plot revolves around Rin Tin Tin as "Rinty" and a secret gold mine fought over by the criminal "The Cactus Kid" and the legitimate owners. Material from this serial was edited into a feature film version and released under the same name in 1934. Prospector Juan Valdez is murdered by The Cactus Kid and his gang in an attempt to discover the location of his gold mine. Valdez's dog Rinty witnesses the murder and can also lead the gang to the mine, making him the villain's target throughout the serial. In addition Rinty must help Valdez's daughter Dolores legitimately find and claim the mine while being blamed for the wolf attacking local livestock.

The mysterious figure of Ramon (Walter Miller) is constantly on hand, overhearing pieces of the villain's conversations. He appears to be another bandit but his actions seem to contradict that.

It is revealed during the course of the serial that Ramon is in fact Marco Roberto, an agent of the Justice

The Lightning Warrior is a 1931 American Mascot movie serial starring Rin Tin Tin in his last role. It is regarded as one of the better Mascot serials. The Wolfman, a mysterious masked figure, is leading an Indian uprising to drive local settlers off their land. The Wolfman kills Jimmy Carter's (Frankie Darro) father and Alan Scott's (George Brent) brother, which leads the two heroes and Alan's dog Rinty, to hunt down and defeat the villain

3. The Law of the Wild (1934) - 12 Chapters - Rex (King of the Wild Horses), Rin-Tin-Tin Jr., Bob Custer - Mascot Pictures Serial

The only serial in which a horse (Rex), a dog (Rin-Tin-Tin, Jr.) and a cross-eyed comedian (Ben Turpin) are billed above the hero (Bob Custer.)

Rancher John Sheldon (Bob Custer) ropes and tames Rex (Rex, King of the Wild Horses) and discovers he is the fastest thing on four feet. When Lou Salters (Dick Alexander), a ranch hand employed by Sheldon, attempts to steal Rex to train him for the track, both Sheldon and his faithful dog Rinty (Rin-Tin-Tin Jr.) try to stop him. Later, John Sheldon is falsely accused of murder. To pay for his defense, John's girl friend, Alice Ingram (Lucille Browne), plans to race Rex for money.

4. Adventures of Rex & Rinty (1935) - Rin-Tin-Tin, Rex The Wonder Horse and Kane Richmond - 12 Chapters - Mascot Pictures Serial

A 12 episode serial starring Rex, the King of the Wild Horses and Rin-Tin-Tin, Jr. Rex is brought from the island of Sujan, where he is worshiped as a God-Horse, to the U.S. to be trained as a polo pony. He escapes, meets Rinty and with the help of Frank Bradley (Kane Richmond) is returned to Sujan. The natives have been persuaded to turn against their God-Horse; however he is rescued just in time before he is burned as a sacrifice.

1. Black Stallion (1939) – Rex the Wonder Horse:

The U.S. government contractors, under the authority of the Taylor Grazing Bill, undertook the task of rounding up nearly 3000 wild mustangs using airplanes, mounted cowboys and bright reflectors. Frank Gay wrote a wild horse story built around this impending roundup, a rancher's son (Wally Albright) and a crusty old timer (Frank Campeau), and Jack Lindell had work for his stable of trained horses, including "Rex", King of the Wild Horses (as "El Diablo”, the villain horse) and "Sheik", the New Wonder Hose (as "Whitey", the hero horse), who are the only credited "names" on the posters and advertising.

2. Rin Tin Tin in Caryl of the Mountains (1936):

Funds are embezzled and a fur trapper is murdered. Rin Tin Tin to the rescue!

3. Vengeance of Rannah (1936) - Bob Custer and Rin Tin Tin Jr:

Insurance Agent Ted Sanders (Bob Custer) has been called in to investigate a robbery and murder. A deputy (Ed Cassidy) also arrives to investigate. But unknown to Ted, the Deputy is a fake and actually part of the gang. The fake plants some of the money in Ted's room so he can arrest him. Then with the help of the gang he plans to finish Ted off.

4. Silver Trail, The (1937) – Rin Tin Tin Jr. and Rex Lease:

A wandering cowboy (Rex Lease) attempts to locate a pal who has struck it rich in mining. When he gets to town, no one seems to have heard of the friend. Our hero learns the truth with the aid of a female bandit. Rex Lease is paired with Rin-Tin-Tin Jr. here and seems to have a genuine rapport with dogs. The scene in the restaurant where he defends Rinty's honor and then has Rinty climb across the table to join him will warm the heart of any dog lover.

5. Law of the Wolf (1939) - Rin Tin Tin Jr. and Dennis Moore:

When Carl Pearson (Dennis Moore) is unjustly convicted of killing his brother, he breaks out of prison with the help of another convict to try to clear his name and also to recover some valuable airplane plans that his brother left behind. He is pursued both by the police and by the real killer, while his fellow escapee tries to turn the situation to his own advantage.

6. Skull and Crown (1935) - Rin Tin Tin Jr. and Regis Toomey

Bob Franklin (Regis Toomey), Border Patrolman on the Mexican border, is preparing for the homecoming of his sister Barbara (Lois January) from a fashionable school. His dog Rinty ( Rin Tin Tin Jr.) is even gathering flowers in anticipation of her arrival. Border Patrolman Ed (Jack Mulhall) drops by to tell Bob that Zorro (Jack Mower), a notorious smuggler, has just crossed the line with a cargo of contraband. Leaving Rinty at the railroad station at the wheel of his car with a note of regret to Barbara, Bob and Ed hit the trail to catch Zorro.

7. The Test (1935) - Rin Tin Tin Jr. and Grant Withers

A fur trapper catches another trapper trying to steal his furs. He stops the thief, but later on the furs are stolen anyway. Rin Tin Tin Jr. tracks down the thief to try to get the furs back.

8. Fangs of the Wild (1939) - Rin Tin Tin Jr. and Dennis Moore

Foxes are mysteriously disappearing from fox farms and Agent Don (Dennis Moore) has been sent to investigate. Brad (George Chesebro) and Pete (Jimmy Aubrey) are the culprits and they are using a dog that can climb the security fence to steal the foxes. Don brings a dog (Rin Tin Tin Jr.) with him and when Carol (Luana Walters) sees a dog stealing a fox, she accuses Don.

9. The Return of Rin Tin Tin (1947) - In this Eagle-Lion Picture, young Bobby Blake stars as a war orphan boy who war widow Claudia Drake has adopted as he was the son of an old friend of her's who went to Europe with her husband. The kid has certainly seen enough of the bad in the world and is withdrawn. Drake has him spend the summer with Father Donald Woods at a mission. While there Bobby befriends a runaway German shepherd (Rin Tin Tin). He belongs to Steve Pendleton. [ADDED]
