Lone Ranger Comics3

Part 3 of 4

Who was the Lone Ranger? He was John Reid, a Texas Ranger who was injured in an ambush by the Butch Cavendish’s Hole in the Wall Gang. The Lone Ranger was nursed back to health by Tonto, who had been a childhood friend and would remain the Lone Ranger's constant companion. Tonto called the Lone Ranger “kemo sabe” which means "trusted scout."

The Lone Ranger got his money from a secret silver mine he owned. The mine was also the source of his trademark, silver bullets.

The Lone Ranger was created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker who also created the Green Hornet. The Lone Ranger's nephew Dan Reid was the grand father of Britt Reid, the Green Hornet.

The Lone Ranger Daily Newspaper Comic Strips of the 1940's

The Lone Ranger was one of the best known Newspaper Western comic strips, appearing from September 1938 to December 1971. Adapted from Fran Striker’s hit radio program, Striker also wrote the comic strips first episodes. Ed Kressy illustrated the first episodes in an uncomplicated style that complemented the script. He was replaced in 1939 by Charles Flanders, a solid craftsman who had worked on Tim Tyler's Luck, Bringing Up Father, Robin Hood, Secret Agent X-9, and King of the Royal Mounted. Flanders stayed with the strip until the end of its run.
