Zane Grey (1872 –1939) was an American author best known for his popular adventure novels and stories that presented an idealized image of the rugged Old West. He was the author of over 90 books, some published posthumously and/or based on serials originally published in magazines. His total book sales exceed 40 million.

The Internet Movie Database credits Zane Grey with 110 films.based on his stories.

Grey became one of the first millionaire authors. With veracity and emotional intensity, he connected with his millions of readers worldwide, during peace time and war, and inspired many Western writers who followed him. Zane Grey was a major force in shaping the myths of the Old West and he helped transition the written Western into other media.

In Radio, the “Zane Grey Western Theatre” had a five year run of 145 episodes.

Many comic books were based on Zane Grey's novels. They were published after his death in 1939, including the ongoing King of the Royal Mounted series.
